Feikje was named after her Grandmother, Feikjen Ides Dijkstra, but was better known as Moeke (Friesian for mother) by her children and all those who knew her. She was born in Lippenhuizen (situated on the left of Motorway No.A7 between Heerenveen and Drachten take exit No.27 at Tijnje) Tijnje Opsterland Holland on 20 February 1911 the eldest of seven children.
Her father Wijtze Van Der Molen was a farmer who made his living on a small plot as well as doing other work such as cutting Peat from the bogs, where they had to work waist deep in water.
She met Halbe Halbesma and married him on 20 May 1933 in Leeuwarden, Friesland and they had six children with twin of Jantje still-borne on 25 August 1943.
For most of her life she suffered with a hearing problem and this may have been the reason that she did not socialise a great deal, especially after the family moved to Australia.
She died of a heart attack in Maitland Hospital on 28 November 1983 and was cremated two days later 30 November 1983 at the Beresfield Cremetorium where her ashes have been placed in the rose garden.
