Diederich Theodorus NOTTEN was born on 25 Dec 1804 in Groningen he was christened on 11 Jan 1805 also in Groningen.
He enlisted in the army at the age of 12 in 1816 and after 19 years sevice recieved an honorable discharge as a Lieutenant. Subsequently he was a Rijksontvanger (Royal Tax Collector) serving sucessively in Birdaard, Akkerwoude, Oosterzee, Blokijl and Tiel.
During 1865 he was Burgemaster (Major) in Ruinen. Knight in the Order of the Dutch Lion.
His 1st marraige at 30 years of age by Publication of Banns on 15 October 1835 in Leeuwarden to Dorothea Angel Van Zelle who was born 7 May 1809, The Hague, christened Roman Catholic 8 May 1805. She was the daughter of Emgel Jan Van Zelle, weaver, and Johanna Mary Ageneta Van Dike.
They had two children the first, Henry Rudolf Jan Andries Notten born 25 July 1836 at 9pm at Birdaard and died 29 July 1836 at 1pm living only 4 days.
The second a daughter Henriette Rudolphine Notten born 12 June 1837 at 2am in Birdaard.
His wife Dorothea died 13 December 1839 at 4.30am in Dantumawoude at 30 years of age.
He re- married Rienkje Johannes Halbesma born 11 October 1818 at 12 noon in Dantumawoude, Baptised 29 November 1818, the daughter of Johannes Liewes Halbesma a Farmer and Tax Collector, and Jifke Rienks Helder.
This union produced 4 children:-
1. Jan Willem Andries Notten, born 28 May 1841 at 2 am in Dantumawoude, christened 28 June 1841 and died at home at 6pm on 12 December 1842.
2. Ifke Mary Louisa Dorothea Notten, born 17 September 1844 at 3pm in Dantumawoude. She married at 31 years of age on 23 August 1876 in Ruinen to Scent Eagle Rademaker who was 42 Years old being born 22 August 1834 at 4pm in Barnaveld, son of Jacob Eagle Rademaker and Aartje Van Essen.
3. Johannes Peter Abraham Frederik Notten, born 15 October 1845 at 5am in Dantumawoudeand died at 6am 17 June 1846 in Dantumawoude.
4. Johannes Peter Abraham Frederik Notten, born 31 July 1848 at 11pm in Dantumawoude, christened 27 August 1848 in Dantumawoude. He became a Clerk of Taxes and this was the only son to live to marry. He married Jeltje Whose on 23 May 1877 at the age of 28 years at Workum..
