[1000] Elizabeth Medhurst met, fell in love and married the boy next door, Albert Edward Wearne. Her Albert was well over 6 feet tall, while she was a small, dainty, blue eyed, curley haired blonde. He dearly loved his Topsy all his married life which was mutual between them. They moved to Bingara with their son, "young Bert" where their next six children were born, later going to Petersham, Sydney about 1918.
Bert worked in the family timber mill, was an excellent sawyer with a great love of timber, being a good carpenter he was handy in making furniture for the home. Lizzie was a fime seamstress, making clothing for her four daughters and even the two sons when they were young. She never spoke ill of anyone, always finding some good quality. Bert was also fair and just, prefering not to criticize or find fault.
The love of timber with appreciation for beautiful grains extended to "young Bert", who became a carpenter and joiner, a real craftsman. Being a perfectionist in his labours his motto was, "If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing well!" The proof of his craftsmanship shows today in the lovely hand made furniture 65 years later.
With his wife Edna he raised his family in Punchbowl, then moved to Kingsgrove and later Roseville. The love of nature of once a country boy showed in his gardens, the chickens, fish in the ponds, aviary of colourful birds, glass house of orchids and exotic plants. There was always something growing, hatching, new to see, so very interesting for growing children. Edna was a clever person also having been Dux of Summer Hill School, then winning a gold medal for touch typing at the M.B.C. Sydney when the youngest pupil there. This led to her employment as a legal stenographer until her marriage. A beautiful knitter meant there was always lovely clothing for babies, her family and friends. Reading was a great love even froma young child, but nothing was ever neglected to finish a book.
Their Children;-
DAPHNE:- was staying with her Aunt and Uncle, the Reverend of the local Parsonage at Taree , when she met George Hinten, a local farmer, later to marry him. Their only child Davis is a Deputy Headmaster at a Sydney School.
VERA:- who went to Fort Street Girls High School, later studied at the University of Sydney, became a High School Teacher. She met and married a young Welshman, Idris Evans, a Shire Engineer who later settled in the Canberra area.
RENE:- a Clerical Assistant married an Accountant, Arnold Ford and settled first at Ryde-Denistone, then at Roseville where she takes an interest in flower arrangements.
EFFIE:- married Roby Halloran who had a Motor-bike Repair Shop in Parramatta Road. What they both shared was a great love of dancing and of laughter. They moved to Earlwood when the children were young, then to Sylvania, raising a close and happy family.
TED:- was a Pilot in Worls War 11 in Singapore area at first, although he did not speak much about it. He too shared a love of timber which with his early knowledge helped him into a business side of the industry.
BETTY:- the youngest child, more than any of the girls had the greatest talent for dressmaking, specialising in bridal and attendant outfits. She was the daughter at home nursing both parents through illness prior to their deaths. Then she married an older friend and applied her nursing talents and experience to look after him. Notin good health herself, she died in her early sixty's.
