Mary Ann Carpenter 1824 _
Mary Ann Married James Redford Allen 15th March,1841 when she was 16 years
old. There is no record of any issue of this union. They parted and she went
to live with Joseph Bridge Jnr. and gave birth to his 5 children. She may
have also reared some of his children from his marriage to Sarah Woodford of
Lower Hawkesbury.
Mary and Joseph did not get married and they parted and 29 November 1864, Joseph married Margaret Moore at West Maitland.
Mary then went to live with Samuel Pateman who was at that stage married to
Maria Aiken of Pennant Hills, Sydney. Maria and Samuel were married on 17th
August,1855 and they had 7 children. Maria died 23rd April, 1887.
Eighteen months after Maria passed away Mary Ann Carpenter became Mrs Samuel
Pateman 3rd September,1888, as James Redford Allen had also passed away.
They were married at his residence, Carey Street, Wyoming (also known as
Maidens Brush Road) by Rev. G.H.Johnstone. Witnesses to the wedding were her
mother Catherine Medhurst(Carpenter (nee Shaw)) and her daughter Elizabeth,
both of Maidens Brush Road. Catherine could not write so she signed the
certificate of marriage with her cross.
Mary Ann Pateman was a Mid-Wife for a large number of years. She rode a horse
side-saddle to attend her patients at all hours, day and night, covering many
miles at times. When she became to old to ride on horse back, she had her
grand-son Jack Pateman drive her in a sulky, and he waited to take her back
home. She used to buy her grand-son a half-penny worth of sweets for driving
her. He wasn't allowed to eat them all at one time. She carried out the duties
of mid-wife until she became to old and the last child she delivered was one
of her great grand-children.
Mary Ann and Samuel Pateman had 4 children.

[1640] Curtis Gordon Maidens born 17/8/1893 is the second child of Elijah and Isobel Maidens. He married Ivy Vidler. Curtis had various jobs during his life time. He was employed in the saw-milling industry, as a teamster and then as an overseer on the Moree District Council. He was employed in road building operations. He is surived by his wife Ivy and daughter April.
