Edward and Jonathon continued grazing and dairy farming in the Putty district whilst their brothers moved to Greigs Creek.
Edward married Maria Jane Cafe (nee Merrick) 11 January 1888. Maria Jane was the widow of Thomas Cafe who was a Policeman and had accidentally shot himself climbing through a fence. Maria and Thomas Cafe had 5 children of whom 4 were still living at the time of their father's death. Three years later Maria Jane married Edward Medhurst. Edward looked upon these children as his own. They had 5 children from this union.
Edward and Maria Jane lived most of their lives in the Howes Valley/Putty district and watched with keen interest the events which had taken place down through the years.
In Maria's early years she was a noted horsewoman, and old hands claim that few equestriennes could sit a horse side-saddle better that her.
They are both buried at Reedy Creek, Howes Valley in a private cemetery.
